ATI 4890 Driver Crashing - Grey Bars/Red Boxes

Thread Starter
I've had this card for a little over a year, a couple of days ago I kept getting random crashes while playing TF2 and BC2. This has never happened before. Now today, while trying to play WoW... this happened.

Its not over heating, I've already removed and reinstalled the drivers... I have even removed the card from the mobo, and reinstalled it. I restored to a previous restore point... and still the same issues. Does anyone know if this is a driver issue, or if my card is just dead? After a couple of restarts I'm able to boot my computer back to normal, but if I play a game it seems to crash and bsod.

Thanks!

My old 4870x2 did this exact same thing.

The memory is bad and you need rma. You could try stock clocks if you haven't or underclock the memory and see if it helps.

It is not overclocked, so I guess i will try to underclock it. I've underclocked both the GPU and Memory to 9000Mhz. Thanks. I'll post if that helps any. And I was thinking about RMA'ing but I'd have to wait. The Gigabyte people are on holidays until the 4th =/

yup good thing it's under warranty other wise you'd have to bake it. i've seen this stuff before i think the some of the solder joints on the memory chips are weak/broke.

I think it maybe the power supply, it was for me. Not the psu but the actual cables/connectors set up . It may appear to power the drive or the card but fails under load. Swap the cables around. You probably have more than one of each type. A faulty cable can often be detected by using the cables to connect a hard drive. If the hard drive shows in bios it is probably ok.
Best of luck

If it crashes when you update your windows experience or play a game and is not heating up, its the connections.
