GT240 question.

Thread Starter
Hello everybody
Gotta ask a quick question.
I think of getting a GT240 as my 9400GT has recently ****ed up.
So i got 2 questions about it.
My motherboard is Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L.
Will it support the GPU despite it being DDR3?

Will my 450W PSU be able to handle it even at full load?
The rest of my system is: Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 2.66GHz
Kingston 1GB X2 800MHz ram

Thanks in advance.
It's fine :)

Yes it will.the ddr3 motherboard has nothing to do with what card you have.

A 450 should be fine unless it's a generic psu. What model is it?

It is a generic one...
My motherboard supports up to DDR2 ram. That doesn't have anything to do with VRAM right?
It's fine :)

That is correct.Any video card with any type of ram will work.It just has to be a pci-express card interface.

Well even though it's a cheap psu it most likely will work.A 240 isn't very power hungry, but you should consider getting a quality 500-600 watt unit to support any future upgrades. Also generic psu's can actually be risky because they can die and take your hardware with them.

1. doesnt matter. their differnt Rams ect...

2. as djsi said, the gt 240 doesnt use a lot of power.. but depending on the psu, if its to much for it ( generic psu's carnt take to much b4 they die ) it could kill more then your gpu.

if you a quaility 400 - 500w psu ( eg. corsair cx-400 only $50ish ( i think ) )
but other wise you could run the risk of killing your psu and it can take other parts of the computer with it.. anywhere from the gpu... to the whole thing.. so yeah

Hello, I own Palit GT240 ddr5 512mb version. Most power it uses is 69W according to nvidia's website so it's plenty enough power you have. Also consider djs38t's recommendation PSU is the most crucial part of a PC I think. Good luck

Edit: Btw, I used it on my GA-G33M-S2 Gigabyte mainboard. So nothing to do with VRAM...

Not planning to upgrade anything.
I'd rather get a new PC than upgrading this one.
Thanks for your time and answers anyway.
I'll get the GPU.
It's fine :)

Hello guys,
Didn't want to make a new thread so I decided to use this one for my issue.
I just got the GPU everything is fine except one thing.
I tried refreshing my Windows Experience Index and I get this message.

"Windows Experience index could not be computed"
Could not measure video playback performance.

I just installed nvidia's latest drivers everything is fine performance-wise.

What could be the problem and how to solve it?

Thanks in advance.
It's fine :)

You're probably missing a codec package or similar. You could try running Windows Update to see if there's an update that you're missing out on.

But I would honestly completely ignore Windows Experience Index. It is a complete joke and doesn't show what your hardware is actually capable of doing. If you want to see differences, run a real benchmark such as 3DMark (graphics), SuperPi (CPU), MaxxMem (Memory), HDTune (Hard drives), and there's tons others. Or you could always load up your favorite game and feel the differences yourself (that's my personal favorite).
