Core I7 950 Vs Core I7 2600K Vantage Runs - Page 4

Imho the i7 950 vs 2600K is valid since both are gonna cost around the same price. Probably at some point someone is going to make a clock to clock comparison like this one:
http://www.fudzilla.com/processors/i...-80%20-percent
...only that's not using the same number of real cores.

Dude, it isn't that I "don't like the results", it is that the results in the above bench are absolutely meaningless and worthless.

Like I said before is a 1100T AMD x6 superior to a 1055T? And anyone who disagrees is a sore loser of deprecated hardware?.... simply because at stock clocks the 1100 is 15% or so faster?

OF COURSE a CPU that is clocked XX% higher will score ~XX% higher in most test. BFD. Who cares? The only thing at all remarkable of Sandy over 1366 Nehalem is that it can do it with fair bit less power. Which doesn't matter to most of us as most OCNers already own ridiculous HSFs or WC loops.

Obviously. I was just waiting for you to spell it out for everyone.

Will the 950 undoubtedly be quicker clock for clock? I don't know yet but i really want to find out.

The point is, because the clocks were different, it, in a way, disqualifies the benchmark.

Yes, it will OC way higher than any i7 chip, give out less heat, and pretty much beat out an i7 chip. which is a good start.
I'm being attacked for benchmarks that aren't even my own? How am i being an A hole?

I'll have real clock for clock benchmarks in a few days. These are just a prelude to real benchmarks.

For some reason most people forget that the i7 2600k is supposed to be a mainstream/performance chip... perhaps something to consider as the 2nd generation of the current i5 750 or an i7 860. In any case, the enthusiast/extreme sandy bridges are coming much later in the year... and I'm looking forward to seeing them.

But I do not see any point in upgrading to the i7 2600k from a i7 950... since the difference is negligible. For people buying new rigs from top to bottom... it's a different story.

Exactly. The 2600K is scheduled to take the place of the 950 in Intel's roadmap but that doesn't necessarily mean the 950 is now crap.

As i said before. If i had built a 950 rig like i had originally planned this thread wouldn't exist.

There are a lot of good reasons WHY you should upgrade to 2600k.

Performance. At 4.9 ~ 5.1Ghz, the i7 2600 is going to be the fastest kid on the block.

Dual / Tripple channel memory is besides the point. Triple channel only benefits memory intensive applications, none of which most of you use, will ever use.

re-sell-ability. In a year, it will be extremely easy to sell your 5Ghz system vs selling a 2 and 3 year old 920 i7 system that you MIGHT have running at 4Ghz. I know for a fact very few people have gotten their systems stable in this range. I've built more than 20+ i7 systems using Corsair water cooling for an engineering firm in Kansas City using Asus and Microcenter $199 i7 950's.

Everyone of those systems were different, 3.8 to 4.1ghz stable. Only a handful were stable at 4Ghz. And I am talking 24/7 Solidworks 2011 rendering.

Stop being emotionally attached to your PC. Make the side-ways upgrade and for most, a huge upgrade to the i7 2600k. If you just bought a new 930 / 950, then maybe not.

I've already sold 2 of my older i7 920 systems $400+ each. Motherboard / CPU and mem.

I know many of you don't see the resell value or investment options as clearly as I think all of you should. If you look over everything carefully, the side-ways upgrade or huge performance upgrade is worth selling now, not later.

Every i7 900 series I have OCed has gone to at least 4.0ghz easy. I have installed/tested over 50. I also used my super Gigabyte mobo, not asus.

I would keep my Q6600 system, but I learned from past mistakes keeping a system for too long. I can turn my current rig around for $400-500 and make use of that money. If I wait another year, I would be lucky to get half of that.

Your assuming alot there aren't you? I bet the 2600k has the same amount of people in here who cant get 4ghz as the i7 900 Not every one knows how to do it .... It is not magic...
