what to do with a qx9770 - Page 3

Downside is that it has 80C Tjmax vs 100C of Q9550 so it needs a TOP LINE cooling..

In everyday usage and OCing up to 4GHz on AIR it has no real advantage on Q9550 as Q9550 E0 stepping on right board hits 4GHz relatively easily and uses less Vcore (runs cooler)..

I say sell it as it`s priced nicely..

CHEERS..
Man, just saw you've reached 100 rep in two months

If I got given that chip, I would obviously use it in my sig rig, but unless you have use for another rig I wouldn't say there's any point in building something up with it.

You could get a ton of cash for it, though. The higher end C2Qs are worth a lot more than Phenom IIs.

Price difference isnt worth it.. making the qx9770 worthless to the average gamer.

and most of those things make no difference as no one cares about any of those except the last gaming benchmarks.

150 dollar cpu > 600 dollar CPU for not a significant increase? Not worth building an entire new machine for it..

ya know that just considering raw performance coz the op got the qx9770 as a gift so price is out of question.......

even though it was a gift, building a whole system just to utilize the chip that is slightly better is a waste of money. And you cant say that it destroys it, when it doesnt. Now using my CPU against the qx9770 it destroys it (use extreme edition 955 on anandtech cpu benchmark) that is called destruction...

ya i understand but just trying to answer basic question of which cpu performs better.....

I realize that and so are the rest of us. Im disagreeing with you and saying they are too similar to make an assumption like yours 'it destroys it!'

So when it comes to gaming, they are practically the same and those synthetic benchmarks that mean nothing... literally mean nothing so.

LoL I just saw it myself..

I`m not sure that your mobo could support it as QX9770 uses 400MHz FSB (1600 FSB) and has 136W max TDP..

CHEERS..

Thread Starter
so it sounds like my best bet would be to sell it. it won't out perform my 1090t but it will out perform my phenom 2 965. i don't need the money. the value in this chip for me would be an opportunity to gain experience working with intel processors. i am always looking for the chance to work with different technologies and expand my knowlege and experience. i will probably keep it for now and have some fun with it. thank you to every one who provided insight. if i change my mind and decide to sell it, i will offer the good folks at ocn a chance to buy it before i put it on ebay or craigs list. thanks again.
