should you not be comparing 3x5970 vs 3x580?

i.e. ati's best performing card vs. nvidia's best performing card?
i dont think you can support tri 5970's as windows can only support 4 gpu's. correct me if I am wrong.

3x 580 is a no brainer

AMD driver support are a joke once a third core is in the equasion

nV will scale decently and with overall better R&D will do nothing but get better

I am looking at buying two of them myself

Normally I am not concerned that much with driver updates but its going to be interesting to see how much more AMD and Nvidia can squeeze out of their latest in the coming year.

Remember it was almost a year later before they released an admirable driver suite for the GF-100.

Games not supporting tri-sli?
I love people...

Tri-Sli is bottle-necked by games / CPU, and not an issue of support or not.
The more cards you have, the more it has an impact on the CPU performance, which in return, impact the game performance.

You can see in that same review that if you go very high resolutions, you do see improvements for Tri-SLI. At 1080p or 1200p, its useless comparing 3 vs 2 monitors. There will be large impacts no matter how you check it.

The 6970s don't out-perform the 580s, either in single-monitor or eyefinity vs surround.
The issue here is $$$. The 6970s are cheaper, and that can't be ignored.

3x6970 vs 3x580s in regard of $$$ vs performance, I would go with AMD.
If you go 3x6970 vs 3x570s, I would go with NVIDIA, mostly because of personal choice and past experience.

If you want to spend major $$$ to play on a single monitor at either 1080p or 1200p, and don't see it as a waste, go for as much as you can.

I would say 3 x HD 6970 and dont look back. They have more RAM which is important for 3 cards since they only use one the the cards RAM. Also ATi cards scale very well now and its much cheaper option.

I would have to agree. Really the FPS difference unless your playing a TWIMTBP game isn't going to be enough of a difference to justify the extra money. Get X3 6970's and use the rest of the money for a good X3 Monitor setup.
