720BE 70+ Degrees C

Thread Starter
Hi all, i've just upgraded my Motherboard from a AM2+ Asus M3N78 Pro, to the one in my sig rig. I noticed my CPU was idling at 45-50c (Cool'n'Quiet is enabled so it is only at 1v and 800mhz when idling) so I decided to run Prime and after a min or so, the temperature has reached 70 degrees, whereas before the upgrade, the temp was about 55 degrees after a 24hour prime test. Ive reseated the heatsink (Stock) twice, reapplying the Thermal Paste each time.

Does anybody have any ideas whats going on confused.gif

Thanks for any help smile.gif

Maybe something went wrong when you installed your heatsink?

ie, didn't correctly applied thermal paste

This. That 95W CPU should not be getting that close to max temp even with the stock cooler.

How much though and how? Amount and method are very important.

If you used anything more than a grain of rice sized dot of TIM, you're using too much. With AM* socket CPUs most manufacturers just recomment letting the action of the HSF clamp do the spreading for you.

you dont really need to do that. The heatsink will spread it out when you clamp it in.thumb.gif

I suggest you clean ALL paste off the heatsink and cpu with a piece of cotton wetted(donk know the proper word) in alcohol. Then, put a bit smaller than a pea sized blob of thermal paste in the center of the CPU and mount again the HSF.

Does the stock heatsink has a thermal pad, if yes, remove it and use thermal paste.
