Asus Rampage III Extreme

Thread Starter
Hi Everbody,

I have just bought a new Asus Rampage III Extreme to replace my current GA-EX58-UD5, and have an 1100W Tagan BZ Power Supply. So far as i can tell, it does not have 2 x 4+4 (8-pin) power connectors.
I am wondering if there is an adaptor such as dual Molex to 8-pin. I have seen such connectors but am wondering if they are safe and reliable.
If anyone has any experience with such adaptors, or simply just an idea or opinion, i would be most happy to hear it,

Thanks For Your Help - White Knight

Follow up question on that, if i only have an I7 920, and i dont plan on overclocking it, is the second 8-pin supply on the motherboard actually required?

I believe that the second one is used solely for high overclocks. Mostly ones above 1.5v on the CPU.

That would be my guess at least. Wait for someone else to chime in with more knowledge.

Thanks, my other question would be would you gain anything from plugging a 4pin into the second 8pin socket or would this just cause further weakness?

Unless you are going for LN2 benches with pushing your 920 5Ghz plus, then the other 8 pin mobo connection is not needed.

I've had both hooked up for a 4.4Ghz and it made no difference whatsoever.

Fantastic, thank you for your help.

Just to be sure i assume that the fact that i run dual GPU's and a RAID controller will not effect this so long as i plug in the 4pin molex connectors?

Look at attached photo, plug each 4 pin header into each shaded spot

You won't need to plug in the molex connections with your set up.

It's more for tri-sli GTX 480s for eg.

I have a question why are you changing mobo? I fyou have a soldering iron and know how to use it there is an easy modification that allows your board to push 230+ blck easily.
