You can overclock your ram, so if you have ram of a good batch you can overclock them way higher..

runeazn: sadly your answer is irrelevant, I'm pretty sure OP is asking about this because of upgrading to AM3 and that memory are SODIMM's that only work on a few AM3 boards (i.e. Mini-ITX ones).

The absolute best RAM for AM3 is RAM that uses Elpida Hyper IC's; the cheapest however costs $119 shipped and I don't believe is in stock (SuperTalent 2000Mhz CAS8 rating). For cheaper you could try G.Skill Ripjaws 1600 7-8-7, can do 6-8-6 (about equal to 7-7-7); though it won't overclock as well, of all the PSC RAM out there it is the cheapest that can reach 6-8-6 easily.

price aside, what is the fastest DDR3 on the planet? AM3 was only meant to handle DDR1300 or something right? ive always been one to by ram that has a higher freq than my mobo. I use the extra freq as headroom, up the FSB and push it to or past is designated freq. We have places like the overclocking world record database but I haven't really ever seen people try and push the limits of ram. I know that ram really doesn't OC. 16% is about the most ive ever seen. whats the fastest ram (on record) used on an AM3 board. i dont really care if the sticks were $20K each, just wondering what the absolute limit is at this point in time.

As for the ram you recommended, is it $120 is per 2G stick? and its 240pin right?

They use the same PSC IC's as the Ripjaws 7-8-7, just a bit higher binned; even then, you probably couldn't reach DDR3-2400 on an AMD platform, and 8-11-8 timings wouldn't be worth it at all as it would perform the same as or worse than 9-9-9. That is very very overpriced too.

Absolute best DDR3 IC's available depends on what platform you're using them on (i.e. Microns vs. Hypers, vs. PSC).
For AMD platforms the Elpida Hyper is the best choice, as it can achieve both high speed (~2000Mhz) and low timings (not anything with a high tRCD i.e. 6-8-6, I'm talking [1600Mhz] 6-6-6 and at low voltage!)

The PSC's in the 2400Mhz G.Skill and the Ripjaws 1600Mhz G.Skill I suggested can often manage 6-8-6 or sometimes 6-7-6 at 1600Mhz, but are usually very senstiive to voltage and to get a very nicely-binned one is rare; PSC's are more famous for getting higher speeds - better on Intel systems - even if at high latencies or obscure high-tRCD timings. PSC's are also the majority of affordable RAM out there.
