XFX 5770 Fan

Hello

Yesterday my 5770's fan seemed to break when I booted up my PC. It makes a sort of shuddering/rattling sound and every so often the fan seems to slow down to a halt and get stuck, turning at an extremely low pace before gradually working its way back to a normal speed.

I opened the case and confirmed the above. The noise was definitely coming from the fan and it was pretty wobbly (the shaft it sits/spins on could be loose? confused.gif) so I removed it from the case and attempted to tighten the screws. The noise stopped for a few hours last night but started again today. This leads me to a few questions..

Is it likely the fan is the problem here? It's not possible the psu might be failing or something?
The only solution would be buying a new gpu, correct? (I don't trust myself to fit a new cooler)
If so then a new 5770 vs a 6850, is the upgrade worth the money? a 500w psu with 1x 6pin is enough for the 6850 right?

All help is greatly apreciated, thanks.

Most likely. I live in England so I don't get the lifetime warranty from XFX and it was bought during August.

If the 6850 is not too much more than the 5770 I would say grab it. You won't be disappointed.

It's about £30 more so I can probably afford it. Just need to meet size and power reqs.

Thanks! Just looked through the guides and they seem surprisingly simple, so I may try them out.

This. I have the 6850, and after a bit of messing around with drivers, I love it.
