Help with dual monitors

Thread Starter
So about a year ago I bought this monitor.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236050

For Christmas my girlfriend bought me a second one. Same exact thing. Both settings are set the same yet the new monitor looks so much brighter and crisp and the other looks much dimmer. When you make the background a solid color like teal for example, the new monitor shows teal while the old monitor shows a much darker teal color that looks completely different. Why is this happening? Is there something I am missing. My old second monitor was just an old 17inch CRT. Please help! Thanks!

Did you adjust the monitor settings at all? Many panels I find come with absurdly bright defaults.

Brightness is 90 on both. I have gone through and it seems all settings are the same on both.

Only difference between the 2 so far that I can find is the old monitor is at 59hz and the new one is at 60hz.

I don't believe the refresh rate between the two would cause an issue. However, I do know that sometimes you get inconsistencies with panel quality. Especially since that ASUS uses a TN panel, quality will be somewhat diminished.

I read you matched the settings and they don't look the same, have you tried reconfiguring your original monitor to match the new one, even with different settings? Try adjusting the gamma, that could also have a negative effect on color.

I tried changing settings on both monitors and I can't get one to look like the other no matter what I do. It seems like my old monitor just isn't as crisp or bright as the new one but I am stumped on if there is even a fix for it.

It's fairly simple, it's all about age, how old is your original monitor and how heavily do you use it? If you give it a couple of months you'll find that your newer monitor should look closer to the older monitor, but it will always be brighter.
The only way to get them to match is to make use of a combination of custom colour temperatures and contrast/brightness.

Old monitor is a year and a couple months old I believe. Used every day, definitely has a lot of hours of run time on it. So if I stop using my old monitor for a while and just use my new monitor will they even out?

Figured. I am able to adjust every setting, but nothing I change gets them close. I can live with it though I was just hoping there was an easy fix. Lesson learned, don't by a second monitor after having the first for a long time.
