Red/Black (UofL) LANBOY AIR Build w/ WC

Thread Starter
I haven't seen any posts about Lanboy Air builds, ... so I thought I'd show you a little about my build and how it all came out.

It's been 2 years since my last PC build... and that system is gettting "long in the tooth!" smile.gif

I use Photoshop and Illustrator alot, and have been know to also play a game or two, hence I need a fast, yet stable system with a mild overclock.
(note: my last build I used a custom Swiftech setup, ... but did NOT like the clogging and special burping procedures... holding system upside down and shaking .. so this time I want to look at WC kits,. .. ie Swiftech 220 Edge and the Coolit ECO C240)

Here are some of the components I selected:
Lanboy Air, (Red/Black) (yep, I like the functionality AND look of this one)
Seasonic X650
Intel i7-950
ASUS Rampage III Formula (Red/Black)
XFX HD 5870 (Red/Black) w/ PCIE connectors on the side.
CORSAIR 12GB (6 x 2GB) DDR3 1600
2 - G.SKILL 120GB SSD , Win7/84 , RAID 0
1 - 30GB SSD (Illustrator Scratch Pad)

First up is figuring out which Cooling System to use (Coolit ECO C240 or Swiftech Edge - I bought both)

I want to install the 240mm radiator on the top of the case, and have it look as integral as possible, and if the rad has a fill hole, .. I want it to be the highest point in the system.

Here's the Coolit Systems ECO C240 ... gonna have to cut thru that plastic if I use this one...

Here's the Swiftech ...

LA2.jpg

THe Swiftech would work, .. but it's a little bigger than the C240 and I would have to do so serious modding to mount it on top.... as you can see the pump also interferes with the rear crossbrace of the case.

LA3.jpg

After pondering the situation for about 30 min, ... the Coolit C240 wins. It will mount up on top with minimal cutting, .. and should look nice once installed.

LA4.jpg

THere ya go, ... I used a Dremel and cutout an access hole to allow mounting of the radiator and so that the waterblock can squeeze thru.

LA5.jpg

OK, so far so good,... got the C240 mounted,... looks good. (Gonna have to try and find maybe thinner fans and a fan guard though)

LA6.jpg

Another view from the bottom, ... not too shabby .. just gotta get rid of the plastic dust! smile.gif

Now on to mounting the Motherboard, CPU, Ram and then trying to figure out some cable management.

Installed all of the components,.... then started working on Cable Management,... and I was a bit worried since I had heard that this part was completely missing on this case...

I left the 1st 5.25" bay open for installing the fan controller, .. put the DVD drive in the 2nd bay, and then installed my 2 120GB SSDs in a 2-to-1 3.5//5.25" bracket in the 3rd bay. The 30GB drive I installed in the 1st 3.5" bay. For some reason I didn't like installing the 2.5" drives was down on the bottom plate of the case.

As you can see from the photos, ... it wasn't too bad... worst was the PCIE Motherboard connectors up in the corner... Antec didn't leave an opening to route the cable nicely.

As you can see, everything came out nicely, and the side panel fits with no bulges, etc ....
What I did with the motherboard cable, ... was to remove the sleeving and heatshrink from the last 6 inches on that cable... then, then cable will route thru the cutout for the cooler bracket, under the motherboard and around to the front where it can be easily connected.

Now on to installing the Fan Controller and gettting that working.

I know this is an old post but I did want to comment. Looks great! I just got my red lanboy air in a few days ago and getting ready to start working on it. I like that you put the SSDs up towards the top, I don't like the bottom mount idea either, I think I will follow you with that idea!

Ill be sure to post up pictures here in the coming weeks of my build! Thanks for sharing
