8800GS problems / GTX460 new buy

Thread Starter
It was only today that I started receiving an error message whilst playing Black ops that said
"display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered"
I haven't seen this before, and had no idea what caused it. My in-game graphics settings have always been the same and the game was relatively smooth. I checked my GPU temp on Everest and its very high - 85'C.

Is the issue with the possible over-heating of the card, or does it lie elsewhere?
I was thinking of upgrading to a GTX460 very soon anyway, will this card run at a lower temp?
Hopefully it will be fine under my 500w psu.

Thanks for advice in advance

exact same issue with my old 8800gtx, turned out the card was knackered so in the end i bought a hd 5770 and all is ok now. I spent countless hours going into the registry and deleting the nvlddmkm file and replacing it. etc and still no luck.

the 8800 runs hot especially if not cleaned out once in a while.

I had blue lines down the screen before it had loaded into windows. Sometimes it would work for a couple of hours and then out of the blue it would crash with the blue screen error.

I have since baked the 8800 in the oven and it now works ok so i will keep it as a spare.

save yourself the hassle and upgrade
