Just tried napoleon total war demo and didn't like it all that much but my friend says it is much better than ETW. Was going to buy ETW when it came out but when it did it didn't have multiplayer which made me not buy it.

In any case, which game do you guys think is better

I'll probably end up waiting till the new year to see if steam puts either of the two on a better deal then they already have most likely.

Edit : Starting to get the hang of NTW now and will probably just end up getting that unless a better sale on ETW arises.

Napoleon.

i preordered Empire and it was a bugfest. even many months after release i was having CTD's coming after a certain amount of time.

The scope of Napoleon is smaller in that there are fewer factions, the world is smaller (in terms of continents, but apparently the amount of towns is higher: think of them as having zoomed in on Europe as it were), and you have Napoleon being the center of everything, but it runs better especially in battles (from what i can tell in the demo). you also get improved mechanics like attrition etc. this is what i've read at TWC though, i'm not going to pay more than $22.50 to get Napoleon.

Empire suffered from being too ambitious and being executed and supported poorly. even now it has lots of bugs and it's too dumbed down as compared to Rome. things like trade that you'd expect should play a bigger role in the game are not really that important.

maybe i'm still scarred from Empire, but it could and should have been a much better game, and supported a lot better. those review scores it got, don't believe them.

also remember that CA are bad at making demos, in that so much of the main game is invisible. you're not going to see how well the game runs just by playing one scripted battle. you have no idea how the campaign map runs from that demo, nor a battle with a forest, for example. if you can try playing for an hour at your friend's house if he has the game and see what you think then

I'd say most of Empire's bugs are fixed.
The scope of the game is just far grander than Napolean.

They are both basically the same exact game, same gameplay, same graphics etc.... The only difference is in Napoleon Total War you can play through the Napoleon Campaign which is pretty interesting i thought.
