Nice to know I won't be playing it while I'm on my weekend lol.
I've never really seen slow download speeds. I was getting my full 5mb/s in the UK minutes after the Dragon Age offer which I was downloading. Pretty rare I drop believe 3-4mb/s.

So yeah, I love steam. I do get paranoid that if it ever went bust or closed down I'd lose access to my games. However I don't really see that happening anytime soon.

i'VE NEVER liked steam (Sry bout caps) but because i prefer to use a disk rather than anything else, because:
1) Disk installs much faster 100% of the time for nearly all people.
2) Several years ago i bought a game from them they never sent me a code, i emailed them they said they couldn't help me because it wasnt in their records that i bought that game, but my $30 was missing from my account.
3) I think that if you buy retail you shouldn't have to use steam.
4) I get better performance not using steam (IE i downloaded a Fixed EXE to bypass steam with a game i rightfully bought and i got about 2-3 frames more per second.
5) I just dislike using another program that uses my System Memory, i don't even like using the program.
6) If steam ever went away nobody would be able to play these games.

I just think that steam is as bad as any Extreme DRM.

steam is great...

1) amazing deals that you won't find anywhere else
2) integrated web browser and instant messaging
3) fast dl speeds...all my games download at 2mb/sec
4) automatic updates installed for you
5) face it...dling games is the way of the future, buying physical copies is a mess anyway...scratched discs...takes up storage room, having to drive to the store just for a game is annoying to me blah blah blah

People can get around DRM, nobody gets past steam

Your opinion just seems to be based off of one bad experience with steam. Personally, I have never had problems with steam and have had a much worse time dealing with retail stores.

They also don't stock to many PC games anymore in most places so they don't even want our business it would seem. Also, most retail stores don't have very knowledgeable staff and the last time I went into a store to buy a game (Oblivion in 2006 or whenever it came out) they asked me 'Can your computer run this', I said 'I don't know, can a 9800gt run it?', they didn't even know what that was :/

Edit : What happens when your disk (in an unlikely situation) broke? Could you then go to a retail store and get a new one?

The store may not even be selling that game anymore and with steam I know I can always download the game again and my collection is safe. There is also much more sales to be had using steam compared to retail stores.

I love steam. I've spent over $1,000 (eek) with them over the past 5 years or so when it launched.

I chose the control freaks option, but the only reason I DON'T get a game through Steam is if they don't have it.

If you ask me this severely damages your argument because you blind yourself to any contrary opinion to your own and mistakenly assume that you and noone else who disagrees knows the truth

I am indifferent.

Ill buy a game from whoever offers the best deal, Other than ebgames/gamestop. I refuse to buy games from them because they have turned the PC section into a single stand. Direct to drive, steam, other online providers. Doesnt matter much to me. Steam is somewhat frustrating when its authorization client goes down and then i cant play dow2 or it kicks me out of a dow2 match.

all the people who love steam deals. Well thank the publisher for that more than steam. Publishers set their price on steam, and when steam runs sales, its because the publisher signed up for it. Steam can take those #s and show them to publishers and say this guy dropped his price and got this much which will in turn convince other publishers to also do it. All online distributors offer deals like steam though.
