Just bought Rebel XS -- software question.

Thread Starter
Like the title says, I've bought my first DSLR (and really, the only SLR I've owned previously is my AE-1), and I'm wondering if any of the software on the included discs is worth installing. Typically I just skip over any included driver/software discs because it's usually crappy or out of date (every mobo/video card I have ever purchased).

Help computer.

I've found the EOS Utility to be useful for tethered shooting, and the Digital Photo Professional software is a nice tool to use for RAW conversion/editing if you don't have the more expensive Lightroom.

Oh, and congrats on the new DSLR!

In my opinion Lightroom, Photoshop, etc. don't convert RAW files nearly as well as DPP. I use LR and/or PS when DPP's limited tool set can't do the job or when I have a lot of shots to process. Now if only Canon (and Nikon for that matter) would play nice and clue Adobe in on how to develop their RAW converters properly (Canikon et al. are notoriously tight-lipped about how their own converters work).
