Varying core temps i7 950

Thread Starter
I ran prime 95 all night and I have been monitoring my temps

I have an i7 950 overclocked to 4ghz at 1.28 volts

my max temps after a night of prime are: 67 64 62 58

my max temps after playing some wow are: 53 48 46 43

why do they vary so much?

this is perfectly normal. mine vary like this as well. maybe not quite as much as yours, but generally during prime i can see anywhere from 5 to 10c difference between some of the cores.

Generally all CPU cores should be projecting EXACTLY the same temperature- a variation of 3 or 4 degrees can mean imminent core failure- I noticed one at 10 degrees!!!

Kidding of course. Relax man, you've done good!

If there was a HUGE variation one might suspect uneven seating of the sink- but doesn't appear so in this case. All good... and much better than just semi normal.

Yeap, I see the same difference in my i7 950. Even with a lapped i7 and heatsink, I see an average of 6 degree c of difference.
