amd 555 vs 925

Thread Starter
Well im starting to build my new computer and I am stuck on what CPU to get (along side with graphics card, psu and mobo). I am considering getting the 555 because its cheap and I can unlock it to 4 cores. It would save me money instead of getting the 925... But my concern is that I wont be able to unlock the cores and ill be stuck with a dual core again.

I could suck it up and get the 925 which is already quad core but its a little more expensive.

As i said idk what mobo, psu and graphics card i will get so I cant give you any specs except my ram which is 4gigs g.skill 1600.

~IMPORTANT~
I will do NOT want to OC ANYTHING except the 2 cores if i get the 555. I do not play extremely high end games like crysis on ultra high settings.

PS: If i get an AMD do i HAVE to get a radeon? Or can i get a geforce?

(If anyone could recommend a good and cheap psu/graphic card/mobo I'd also appreciate it ^^)

I would just buy the phenom 2 555 and go for it.and yes nvidia geforce cards will work fine with an AMD CPU.

I would go with a Phenom II 560 X2. They have a better chance of unlock to quads.
What games do you play?
What is your budget?

ah... cause my friend said this is how it is. Nvidia = intel and radeon = amd

EDIT: well i try and want to plan on spending like 500... i already have a case and ram (about 100 after MIR of the case). The only things i need is cpu/psu/graphics and mobo.

The games I play (well at the moment) is kind of just CSS (which i play competitively) and TF2 which i just bought. I know they arent high end games but i obviously plan on playing new games in the future (like The Secret World if anyone knows that... there is no conspiracy =P)

EDIT 2: My friend who builds comps said the 560 sucks though?? What makes it good or better than the 555 or 925?

Your friend is stupid. You can use any single video on AMD. If you go SLI. That is a different story.

Edit
If a 560 suck then why I got 2 560 that unlocks to quad and can it 4.0ghz.

Do you want a DDR2 or DDR3 mobo? Sorry I did see you have DDR3 1600.

Did your friend say overclocking is bad also? Your friend sounds like he works at BestBuy.

Look at this. Less then $500 with a better CPU(965).

You MAY be able to unlock it. I got mine unlocked to a stable quad but its totally luck of the draw. If you are set on a quad core go ahead and get the quad core. Better to do that and not be disappointed if you can't unlock the 555. And you can use GeForce or Radeon its totally up to you. Doesn't matter if you have AMD or Intel CPU. I use GeForce with my AMD.
