Southbridge is insanely hot, help! - Page 3

I'm having a little trouble uninstalling the southbridge cooler to replace the TIM. It has 2 spring screw things. I tried pulling the heatsink off and it came off but the screws held it from coming completely off.

It changes when I push the heatsink down more so it's not a bug. I also touched it and burned my finger.

Can't seem to get it off, I think I'll get a replacement from TigerDirect which shouldn't be too hard. Thanks everyone, REP+!

for those kind of screws you usually have to pinch the end at the bottom (on the back of the motherboard) so that it allows the screw part to go through the hole. Otherwise it will hold onto it like that. At least thats if I'm thinking it is the plastic push screw thing with springs on them.

RMA it.

nothing is broken, just leave it, did you at least google what it's rated for? How about contacting Biostar and asking what is an acceptable temp before qqing about an RMA here. Did you even touch the heat sink to see if it wasn't a faulty probe?

...and if it still works, what are you RMAing?

Oh, the temp is right. I had a burn mark on my finger.

Anyway I just got an RMA from TigerDirect, and they paid shipping. Thanks!

Another thing I plan to do on my rigs soon is to replace the thermal tape on all the components with some MX-2 or equivalent high performance thermal grease. There was a guy on the Foxconn Destroyer thread that changed the tape out for some dank and got the temps down 20 degrees!

I guess I'll see.
