for most people getting their feet wet in manual exposure, the meter is counter-intuitive. very bright scenes need more exposure and darker scenes need less exposure. this is because meters in cameras try to set the "zero position" to black gray and white gray. a good place to start is the different metering modes. you could also touch on reading histograms which is an infinitely invaluable tool next to your exposure meter. put tricks like exposing to the right for better shadow recovery in raw. however, this might be a little overwhelming for a thread meant for beginners. maybe there should be a separate thread for "advanced" techniques instead? |
