Intel Intel Core i7-950 Help!!!

Thread Starter
Hello guys,

I would just like to know If my 550watt Fatal1ty power supply would be alright with a Intel Intel Core i7-950 with a HD5850 or would be better suited with a HD5770

Thanks!

It would be cutting it extremely close. At full load a 5850 consumes about 315w of power. An i7 consumes about 200w of power I believe. Thats already up to 515w not counting the hard drives, motherboard, fans, and other stuff. I myself might get a 750w+. I like to leave some head room.

550 watts should be plenty for that setup. You only need 600 watts for a GTX 580 which is much more power hungry than your 5850 and that OCZ power supply of yours is a decent one so you should be fine

Edit: Just checked, AMD recommends a 500watt or greater power supply. Source.

I'd say it's okay when you run idle.
On full charge (games, heavy programs), it could be in the limit of what your psu can offer on the long term.

Yes, if you start having crashes on an otherwise stable system you might not be able to find the culprit in the BIOS

Although I feel stupid about this kind of stuff when Mr. Power Supple could let you know 100%. I think it will be fine, even on load. Would I run it long term? No but that is coming from the guy who the 1000w PSU and doesn't need nearly that much. lol

Hopefully this was a type as the 5850 consumes no were near that amount of power.

An X58/i7 965 rig over clocked to 3.75Ghz w/5850 consumes just 348 watts.
