can GTX 570 flash to GTX580 - Page 2

If I'm not mistaken, there are specific hardware differences (i.e. lack of chips) on the 570 that should prevent it from truly flashing to the 580. I'm not sure if the flash would affect speed if it did work.

well... they may have... but it wouldn't of worked lol

anyways....

the 570 and 580 may.... and i stress the may.... be in the same boat as the 465 and 470 as i mentioned earlier

if they are or not... i ain't sure....

firstly does your 570 have all of it's RAM chips...

If so... i would give it ago myself....

just make sure that you have a card that you can use to recover it if it doesn't work

No, unfortunately the shaders are lasered off on the 470 and newer 465s.

ok finally i was able to dig up one of my 470 screenshots flashed to a straight up 480 bios.

See how my default clock is 700MHz? that's the only thing that changed besides the voltage snapping. It still shows up as a 470.

So this is basically what will happen to your 570. No benefits unless you see the stock clock change as a benefit.

I know this to be true based on my experience from flashing my GTX 465 to a GTX 470 (it's an "unlockable" Golden Edition Twin Frozr II GTX 465).
The only reason that shows up is because the golden 465s were actually 470 chips/memory with a slight crippling via bios.

If you flash to the wrong card it will still show up as the card it is in gpu-z. Furthermore, a 465 without the extra memory chips will unlock shaders to 448 but still show up as a 465 in gpu-z, and still have 1024mb memory.

Some people need to grow up and let the past be passed.
It COULD BE possible. But it will do NOTHING apart from upping the clocks from 570 stock to 580 stock.

Either that, or it bricks the card for some reason.

See that? There was a whole thread of 480 vs. 470 bios on a 470 and the slight performance gain observed. It turned out to be user error(forgot about raised memory stock clock)

anyways OP it won't do anything besides change your stock clocks and possibly stock voltage. it won't identify as a 580 or turn into 512 shaders unless the 570 isn't physically cut(i'm pretty sure it is)

I mean, I can do the same thing. All I have to do is choose a 465 or 470 BIOS that has the vendor name of my choice. Mine is currently EVGA-identifying because I wanted to be able to use EVGA OC Scanner. Initially, I had an MSI-identifying 470 BIOS. After that, I tried a few others until I saw someone using the EVGA OC Scanner which caused me to finally grab a good EVGA-identifying BIOS.

So just because you can flash it to a BIOS with a different vendor name, it doesn't necessarily mean that you're using a GTX 480's BIOS on a reference GTX 470.
I was able to use OC Scanner on a PNY 480. The subvendor name was Nvidia (10DE).

The way some of the 465s could be 'transformed' into GTX 470 was by flashing. But the important thing was to erase the 465 bios before flashing the GTX 470 bios. Or else it would not unlock the cores.

Therefore, if somebody will try GTX 570 to 580 flashing, erase first.
