Core i7-950/Core 2 Duo T7700

Just ordered a brand new system. Core i7-950. Just want to know how fast this mother...ya know..how fast is it gonna go? I got a EVGA X58 SLI 3 mobo with it, and a few gigs of RAM. Also, does anyone know more about Intel Dynamic Acceleration on the mobile processors, or experienced it? I've got my MBP running at 2.6 when thermal headroom allows.

isnt the i7 meant to be something like 40% more efficient than any previous intel processing cores. thats only for processor dependent applications such as encoding and decoding video's. gaming you will see little difference since that is also dependable on graphics cards as well. a i7 950 would most likely be overkill for a GTS 250. and that would stop any noticeable performance increase in games.

It depends on the game, most are GPU bound but several more popular recent titles are CPU bound. SC2 I believe is CPU bound for example.

That said the OP's new rig should lots of fun....good for folding if he gets an itch for it.

The main game I use is Flight Sim X. CPU bound. So the improvement over a QX9650 is how much? And for my needs...a GTS 250 works just fine. Until I find the cash to get a pair of GTX 275s....or GTX 580s..How will CoD:BlackOps work on my new rig?
And will a 550W PSU work decent for now? It worked perfectly alright for my QX-based rig.
One other thought. I have an 1366 based i7. My e-junk just grew 3 inches.

I have no idea about the efficiency, but it's burning away. Just got everything set up, and installing Win7. Odd thing was that when I was installing things using my Corsair H50 cooler, it would crash constantly. Then, I mounted the stock Intel blower, and it's going excellently now. Any idea why this is? I'm thinking the H50 was mounted badly or something. One more question. Why does it take so long to start up? The 'board is a EVGA X58 132-something..3 SLI.

Could be because the X58 chip was getting way too hot, and the stock Intel cooler naturally move air through nearby heatsinks...where as watercooling blocks of any sort don't.

X58's got it's own fan. By the way. How much of an OC can I get out of the stock HS? If the answer is "not much"...then I guess it's time for a new cooler.
