Problem with video playback (no sound)

Don't know exactly where to put this as I don't know exactly where the problem is.

I tried to run "The Pacific" movie series and it would instantly crash back to a screen where it asks to play the movie. Furthermore, my videos on blackops does not playback any sound. And thirdly, whenever I start up COHO it shows a blank screen for the opening credits and eventually absolutely no sound in-game.

This started happening when I used SPDIF as my audio out. Sound does work fine on youtube videos and in game on minecraft and black-ops. There seems to be something corrupted with my video playback associated with WMV or programs that use the same codec. I thought it was a video card problem but now that I type this it might be something else.

Cheers on any fixes, ideas, etc. I'm going to go play with my audio settings and see if the problem is with the sound card.

Edit Update: tried reinstalling AMD video drivers and my entire sound card setup. Still no success.

Have you installed these with your drivers:

. Avivo codecs
. Drag & drop transcoding
. Hardware accelerated WMV playback

I found that at least one of the above (I think its Avivo codecs) messed with video playback for me. I also own a 5850. I uninstalled all 3 from the Ati Uninstaller, might have restarted, didn't bother to driversweep, and then videos played fine.

I would suggest you trying to install K-Lite codec pack (Full) found easily on google, restarting and trying again. If all else fails, have you tried playing the same video files on other programs? Such as..VLC..? Winamp etc?

This. K-Lite works like a dream.

If that doesn't work, use VLC, and if that doesn't work, use Media Player Classic (I believe it comes with k-lite)

Awesome show btw, I have all the eps in 720p

K-Lite pack is actually the first thing I install after a fresh OS setup.

Hmmm. If the avivo codecs get uninstalled, would that remove the video enhancements on AMD cards? I know when I turn off hardware accelerated flash the quality decreases 10 fold. Would it cause the same effect?

I wasn't able to get winamp to work either. Interseting. I'm giving k-lite a try now and see if it helps.

Ya, I only got to watch 1 episode so far and that was when it was being played on the TV. Can't wait to wait the entire series like Band of Brothers.

Well drag and drop just killed my raid array. :\\ and k-lite doesn't seem to be helping either.

Well, I guess a format is in order now. Ugh, do I ever hate how AMD incorporated their CPU/Chipset drivers with their video drivers. What garbage.

It's alright now. I have no idea how those raid drivers get deleted. I have them reinstalled now and functional.

Alright, so an update on the problem. The sound for the black ops videos are working again. It seems to be a problem with the USB headset I was using coming into conflict with everything else. However, on those black op videos (the videos that play in between levels) go to the headset. Windows has the default sound going through the digital out on the sound card.

Videos also don't play on COHO and no sound is play through either the headset or speakers. Ugh.
