hdd question...(first sata drive)

ok... First to get this out of my way... As posted in title this the the first sata dive i have ever owned(good o' pata for me) well im only 17 so i dont have a good supply of money so i never got a sata drive... For christmas i got a seagate baracudda(idk if spelled right) 1TB st31000520as(might be wrong... Havent opened it yet) and i have a western digital 80gb ide drive that currently has all my stuff on...i have a couple questions regarding sata and pata... First. I beleve my mobo(sig rig) has sataIII but im not certain so my question is... Does my sigrig mobo have sataIII ports or just sata? Second. Considering my mobo and hdds(1 sata and 1 pata) would it be wise to do a raid setup(if so can some one tell me which one to use)? Regarding question two. Would it be better(performance wise) to haveit as raid setup or just clone the 80 gb drive and remove it from the rig altogether? Question three. Coming from pata/ide... How much performance increase will i be seeing on sata(i think my pata drive is 7200 rpm and this sata one is 5900)? Also idk if this changes andthing but my pata/ide drive has a dvd rw drive on the same cable does this hinder performance? I apologize if some of my info is wrong or if more words are misspelled than i thought... Im on my cll phone. Thanks for the advice in advance

Ok, pretty tired so I apologize for my short answer:

1: You Have SATA II (Only high-end SSD's can take advantage of SATA III)
2: Don't RAID. Don't RAID a PATA and SATA. Also, you want 2 identical drives for RAID
3: Not sure on this one. I assume that the 7200RPM PATA will have a faster seek time while the 5900RPM (Or is it 5400RPM?) because it's SATA will have higher transfer speeds, don't trust me on that though.

-Hope this helps

Sean

ok thanks sean that cleared up 2 of my questions but what should i do with my pata drive? Do i just clone it and remove it? And i checked my picture of it and the box says 5900 rpm not 5400(but i hae been mislead by boxs in the past) and if you suggest i clone it can someone tell me a good progam of doing do? Thanks

What I would do is try to find an external PATA enclosure (can be found on ebay for <$10) and use it as a backup/external HDD.

EDIT: I don't know any good cloning programs, but I imagine that if you backed-up windows to it, it would be just as good as a clone. Once you reinstall the OS you can restore from that back-up.
