Overclocking my Computer - Laggy on MW2

Thread Starter
I want to overclock my system, but most importantly Q6600 CPU from 2.4 to the max possible. I'm not the great at overclocking to. Can you please giving me exact figures such as CPU, RAM and multiplier would be great. My current rig as follows.

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad - 2.4ghz - Voltage Normal
Graphics Card: Gigabyte: nVidia GTX 260 1GB
RAM Kingston: DDR2 400/800 2x2GB
Cooling: Thermaltake: DuOrb
MotherBoard: GA-73VM-S2

I want to make it so I can put my MW2 at Max graphics without getting lag when i run though smoke and such

I am not sure what your asking. If you are asking what the best settings for an overclock for you we need to know more first but overclock settings are kinda unique to every1 in a sense that different setups have different capabilities.

do you have an aftermarket heatsink?

click this and edit your system specs so we can help u more.

OK I updated it. But I don't know what I put in for Bio's. Are all Gigabyte bio's the same?

dont worry bout it. You filled in the most important stuff. Is this an oem computer (if so which brand), or was built by you?

what res are you playing at? Also Can you post a ss of your overclock settings (cpu-z validation works) and a gpu-z shot of your graphics overclock so I can see what were working with?

I am not sure a 260 alone would be able to do max everything on mw2 without at least a little lag here and there, even if its mega overclocked.

The system was built by me 2 years ago. I have been upgrading my parts though so it's alright. I run the game at my required resolution 1920x1080. I can get everything at max graphics fine, It's just when I enable shadows and AA the fps goes up and down.

i am not too sure if you could perform a very good overclock considering you have a duo orb cooler and a mini gigabyte mobo. but its always good to try. the lag you get at those big smoke piles in modern warfare 2 is expected. its all about your graphics. your cpu mainly isnt the reason why that happens. i would try overclocking your gpu. if you really want to do the cpu clocking i have a video guide showing oc'ing a q9550 on a gigabyte board. its relatively same settings so it should give you a basic idea

take a look at what i do and you could try applying similar settings

Are you only doing this to run Mw2 better? Have you tried other options to get it to run better? I am pretty positive you have lowered settings, ect...but if not fps in the Call of Duty games is mostly effected by

1. Anti Aliasing
2. Textures
3. Specular map
4. Shadows
5. Resolution

Really familiar with the game and getting the best fps / making a good config and I would say those five graphic settings are in order and number one being the highest priority to get the best frame rates. Also the game really has hardly anyone online now with the release of Black Ops and most people still playing Cod4 so if the game is laggy I would pretty positive to say its a bad host and four bars means anything up to 200 ping.

Wow I sure do hope you didn't want to learn how to overclock instead of just trying to get Mw2 to run better. ^ tmi

: ) Good luck...
Edit - I failed to read to the very end of your post where you say you want to run it max settings.
Ah I fail...if you still want though lol....specular, shadows, smoke edges, depth of field and glow will increase fps and will not take away quality of the so much image but instead decrease pretty effects that are not needed or that can get in way usually anyway.
