GTX 570 Noise

Thread Starter
How loud are we talkin' here? I currently have an eVGA 9600GT and it's pretty much silent at idle. Unfortunately, it's lacking in the frames department when I play Battlefield BC2.

I'm looking to buy a GTX 570 in the near future, but I'm worried about noise. How loud is it at idle vs load compared to the 9600GT? As a reference, the 9600GT at idle is perfect, but at 100% fan speed it's way too loud for this system (I record music with this PC). Though, at load, the noise doesn't change much. Also, the eVGA GTX 470 is INSANELY loud at load. I definitely can't record with that thing.

You can't compare db readings between reviewers...

The 570 is far from silent, but it's really not bad at all. The tone is rather pleasant. I spent quite a lot of time, money, and effort attempting to make my PC as close to inaudible as I could, and the 570 really doesn't bother me at idle. I'd say it's comparable to my PS3 under load, maybe a bit quieter.

This is a bad site to be talking about noise or silence. Some people here think Ultra Kaze 3000rpm fans as quiet, white noise or Deltas are not that loud.

Better off asking people at SPCR. If you have an extremely quiet PC, the 570 is going to stand out.

It's really quiet in my opinion, at least compared to the graphics cards I've had before (4890, 5870 and 8800gts)

I'll put it this way. If you rub your fingers together halfway across the room, my condenser mic will pick it up. I don't record with that much gain normally, but it's best to cut out as much noise as possible when recording (kill the A/C, lower fans as much as possible, etc).

If I can hear the fan at idle from 4 ft away, it's probably too much.

It's going to be audible from 4' in a quiet room.
