crap.

Does anyone know when manufacturers will start releasing cards with aftermarket coolers? I know Gainward has one called the Phantom, but I can't find it anywhere.

There's also the new Thermalright Shaman, but it's a monstrosity, so it kind of destroys any chance of a SLI setup. Not to mention, I'd lose my sound card in the process. Ugh... why did I chose recording as my hobby?

It looks like Palit is releasing a non-reference card as well. According to Guru3D, the noise is within 1dB

To give you an idea of what I prefer, I actually run my two Gentle Typhoon AP-15's (which, are regarded as some of the best performing quiet fans on the market) in Push/Pull on my H50 undervolted to around 1200RPMs as the full load noise, while not too intruding, is something I can do without.

While I have no personal experience with the GTX 470, I've read how people noticed a difference switching to a GTX 570 in regards to noise. With my current Afterburner fan profile, for my two 570's, at idle they are running at 49% and all I hear is the pleasant sound of whooshing air. To be honest, my top panel filled with three undervolted Corsair fans (running ~1000RPM) make the most noise at idle in my setup. Even at full load, when my 570 fans hit around 80% to keep the temps below 80C, the sound profile is still tolerable, for me. Sure I can hear them, but there is no significant "coloring" in the noise, unlike the droning/whining sound I heard from the HD5970 fan at full load, which I came from recently.

For what it's worth, EVGA has released an updated BIOS for their cards that help give a wider range of fan speeds, one of which is the ability to reduce it further down to 30%. I have tried it and the cards are inaudible to my ears at those speed. Of course, the trade off is slightly higher idle temps, but they are still very much manageable thanks to the vapor chamber cooler. I don't imagine that you will be recording while gaming anyway, so adjusting your fan profile for your recording environment will be effortless.

Well my 570 is about 10 times quieter than my old 4870. To me i dont hear it over any of my other components although that does include an antec tri-cool fan at max cooling my rad.

It's quieter than a reference GTX465/470/480, but it still blows away most non-reference designs in terms of noise. At low fan speed it's innocuous, but under load it will heat up and it will get loud. If you "can't hear it" then you're running a loud system or hard of hearing. Whether it's loud or not is not debatable. (Most reference graphics cards are obnoxious) The only argument to be made is whether it bothers the user or not, which is gauged on a case-by-case basis.

If you're sensitive to noise in the least, you will hear it, and it may or may not bother you. Either crank the headphones/speakers up or wait for a non-reference design (Such as the Gainward model http://www.overclockers.com.au/artic...?id=926364&P=1)

What is your ambient temperature, Blostorm? I find that temperature @ 50% hard to believe at anything over 16C or so. A stock Vantage run for me @ 22C hit 91C at 60% and 76C at 70%. My system is well-cooled, too.

I run my card at 100%, haven't seen it go past 62c even in OCCT. Gaming wise it hasn't broken 50c.
It's pretty damn loud but it doesn't bother me. It's not really an annoying sound, just the sound of air moving.

It's mostly idle noise that I'm worried about. I checked out the Gainward Phantom in that link, and the noise is exactly the same as the GTX 580. It seems the fans do nothing to lower the card's noise levels.

The noise at idle for these cards is negligible. Under load is when you'll hear it.
