460 sli or 580 with current rig

Thread Starter
Keeping in view my current sig rig, should I go for another 460 Calibre or get Single 580.

As my PSU CM Real Power M700 has four 12V rails each of 19A, IMO it can handle 460SLI or 1x580, but need your feedbacks as well.

-I am confused on how to make the psu connection configuration for the sli setup. I have to use the molex connectors for sli, wil they be alright??

-Also the molex connectors dont have the capacitors on them like the pcie cables come with psu, does it make any difference???

-One thing more, i5 750 will bottleneck the configs on default clocks but i hope it wont if OC to 3.4~3.6GHz (24/7) ??

since you have a 460 already... i would just grab another one....

as far as balancing the load....

i would need a wiring diagram to be able to tell you how to plug this system in so that it would defiantly run without any issues

if the power supply can provide enough amps on a 12v rail to supply the power to a 580 then why not?
In my case i have 3 gtx 470 and a single rail in my psu can run up to 85 amps
Therefore i was able to run one card on a single rail even though it has two connectors
I just used the simple splitter that came with the psu
Been working just fine for me
Im not sure if 38 amps are enough to power up a 580 btw
Id suggest a psu upgrade then think about the rest of the computer and what you should upgrade to
Better psu means more flexibility
If you get a better psu then you can get the 580 and keep the 460 for physx or something
Please correct my terminology if i have missed used them

@hodgoes2001, If I had the wiring diagram than it was'nt a problem any more to decide.
Only thing remains is I should open it up to get an idea of the 12V rails(if they exist ).

@XtachiX, you are quite right about 580, but i think that all rails are from common source. So, I might have a chance.

kindly give your opinions regarding i5 750 as well.
Thanks and regards

the i5 750 should not be a bottleneck to any single gpu or dual gpu left at stock speeds
its a quad core processor so i dont think there is a bottleneck
you're on the safe side i suppose

460s won't be better than a 580.
They rival the 480, but not the 580.

Performance to bucks, I will say get another 460.

You can just connect each card to a different PCIE slot power wise, and you are fine.
