My budget suggestion for you:
Phenom II x4 955 - $135.50 via combo deal
ASUS M4A79XTD EVO - $99, $84 AR
2x GeIL Value 1600 9-9-9 - $92 for two
Corsair A50 heatsink - $33, $23 AR
Subtotal: $358.97
Taxes (NC 5.75%): $20.64
Total before rebates: A perfect $379.61
There are $25 in rebates so $344.61 after all rebates

I also recommend (if you don't mind a few dollar over $380): GeIL Black Dragon + Free 8GB USB flash drive - $48.99 each.

I highly recommend you go with an AM3 platform system for now. The reason why I recommend this is because in April 2011, AMD will be releasing codename Bulldozer CPU's with 4, 6 and 8 threads at 32nm. These CPUs will be using AM3+ socket boards; these AM3+ socket boards can support AM3 CPUs so contrary to what most say there is in fact an upgrade path. AMD Bulldozer/990-series chipset platform will be the mainstream platform in 2011 and I am very confident that it will at the very least outperform (LGA1155) Sandy Bridge in single and multithreaded apps.

Sell the Q6600, get a Q9550, a Hyper 212 Plus HSF and a 2nd GTX460 for SLI. Approximating the math: $380 + ~$125 = ~$505 - $275 [CPU] = $230 - $30 [HSF] = $200 left for 2nd GTX460.

I say keep your current system, LGA-775 is still alive and kicking. Save up for SB/Bulldozer. If you get impatient, grab something better then your "crappy aftermarket" cooler (H50 for example) and clock it till your happy.

Wait for OFFICIAL benchmarks between the two, don't give in to pressure when nobody knows the actual performance differences. Bulldozer may be better then SB in specific applications, SB may be faster in others. I say save up and wait It's what I'm doing, and I'm happy with what I have.
