Hey crashing with DX9 kombustor but not with DX11 run what could cause?

I only get 97%gpu usage with DX11 so I tried DX9 Kombustor run and first I saw a few lines flashing on screen then crashed. I do have a slight OC with my GTX470 750/1500/1750 but I have never had a crash with these clocks or driver265.90 Quadro. What could cause these DX9 problems, because I also have problems with Fallout NV which is DX9 also ,right. In FNV I get flashing squares and studdering but only at 50% gpu usage with game so I am confused. Could it just be memory clock to high or other? Any ideas on problem or fix would be great! THANKS!

definitely sounds like artifacting. Bring the card back to stock and then OC only one thing at a time to identify the culprit. Either VRAM or GPU is unstable so you must figure out which one. What kind of temps did you hit while running Kombustor? Overheating your card can cause artifacting on a usually stable card as well

If you think it might be the OC, then just return the card to default and try again instead of asking. It's quickly done and makes it easier for us to help. Does sound like artifacting, so I'd try this first.

If you have a problem with DX9 that's not caused by the OC, then I'd try reinstalling DirectX.

I did return to default and still having problems with DX9 Kombustor and I even had a crash when clicking on IE9 just now. It is freezing in my room about 50F but I am starting to worry because my monitor went in to power saving mode for a minute which means it lost all input with the crash trying to open IE9. Could psu temp to low or psu problem it is almost new along with gpu? Yipes I have never had these issues other than FNV studdering and flashing. HELP where do I start to find issue? Thanks!

I'd try getting an older driver.
I recently went from 10.4 to 10.11 on my HD 5850 and experienced random crashes (even when idle) and instability. After going back to 10.4, I didn't have a problem. Now at 10.12 and haven't had a problem yet. Apparently my card didn't like 10.11 and maybe yours doesn't like your current driver. It does sound weird though. As I understand you haven't updated the driver recently, right?
Oh, and we'd still like to know what your GPU temps are like.

I really doubt it's a PSU problem, though.

Hmm...could be a software or driver issue crashing your PC. Check the event viewer and see what is causing it to crash. It also wouldnt hurt to uninstall all of your video and Physx drivers, run driver sweeper, and reinstall your drivers. Sometimes drivers install incorrectly or you still had files from older drivers causing issues with your new drivers. Process of elimination my friend. Start with driver sweeper and then go from there.

The event viewer had a couple events for the crash. The nvidia openGL driver lost connection with display driver and had to close app, warning 4101 display driver nvlddmkm stopped resp. and rec., and also error 14 nvlddmkm description for event 14 cannot be found but the following was included with event \\device\\Video5 cmDre00000001/00000094/ff1fe138/00000004/00000084. I know you probally won't be able to make any sense of this but worth a try. Any ideas on cause or fix?
