10000$ for new PC, need advices - Page 4

Ya company gives you 10 grand and you come on here asking what to build, why are you spending that much on a computer anyway?

Build a 2000$ build and use the rest to go on vacation somewhere.

Why does that matter? The mainstream version will only have 2x8 PCIe lanes from the CPU and a few more on the P67.

The Momentus XT are a bad choice for storage drives. They have only 4GB NAND cache. A faster 3.5" HDD with better average performance would be a better choice.
Yeah, don't wait for Sandy Bridge. It's not like a 980x is slow.

Momentus XT is not designed for desktop use anyway. Besides, if you have the money, you can get an SSD and a HD.

No, they make everything else faster.

Also, running two processors requires a chip with two QPI links, so a 980x won't work.

Dual-link is only for ultra-high resolutions on a single monitor, such as 2560x1600. For 3D surround, all you need is three 120Hz monitors.

That chip is not socket 1366.

He will not need two 1500w PSUs.

Whew, a whole post just to clarify things.

Yeah right like 3-580's can't handle it on their own.

What do you want? Do you run lots of editing programs or just game? $10,000 is huge overkill for a PC. You shouldn't be spending more than $4,000.

Consider:

980x
x58 board
6900 series/580 in SLi or X-fire (probably not Tri-fire unless you bench)
SSDs
Dual monitors for workflow (not gaming) and look into BenQ's new 120hz monitor.
SOUND SOUND SOUND - no better way to enhance your gaming/music/movies than good sound. Do some research on bookshelf speakers, headphones, and headphone amplifiers.

Exactly.

For example, when I do no-holds-barred builds on newegg, I still end up under $4,000. Anything more than that has diminishing returns.

I'd get an 950, a decent board, a pair of 570s, two big honking ssd's, a few 2tb and raid them, 6gigs of ram, and a nice high res screen. Then I'd spend the rest on sweet peripherals =) desk/mice/keyboard/speakers/receiver etc

OR

Go to your favorite etailer for pc parts, go to each category and sort from highest to lowest, pick the one at the top, and take two =D

i'm interested in what hardware you can get with $10k.

no one has recommended a custom wc loop.

With 10k I'd get a laptop and a used Honda.

When I do the last one, I end up over $20,000. Probably not the best plan.

Decent starting point:

Edit: Wait, why do I have Superclocked in there? Yeah, just get the normal ones.
