To buy or not to buy?

Thread Starter
I was looking to upgrade my cpu and maybe unlock quad-core's at a cheaper price. I've made a few selection's on which I was intrested in. But i'm not too sure they are worth buying or not. Nor do I have any experience with tri/quad-core or even unlocking them. Would my mobo be able to do that? But yeah, i'd really like to stay with the cheaper option's as much as possible (below $100). I need help deciding on which to get and why would be greatly appreciated or if you have any other suggestion's, I am also open to that as well. Also the main reason for upgrading would be to stabilize framerates for gaming.

Hi.

The CF isn't a very good mobo IMO. I used the K9A2 Platinum and is a much better mobo.

Regarding the CPU, if you can afford the X4 925 go for it. But if you want something good below $100, get the X3 715 with a good cooler, it's a good CPU and can give you all that you need.

I'm content with my mobo so no need to dis it my baby. Cooling shouldn't be a problem. And what about unlocking core's? What option does that?

The unclock cores isn't 100% sure but can works in any of those CPU in the list. IMO, if you want a Quad core, is better buy a real quad core like the 925.

What would you say about a quad-core w/o L3 cache?

The L3 cache is mostly used for games (see here=),so, if you want the CPU for games I'd go with a CPU with L3 cache Phenom II X3 or better.

I can't speak from experience but I know the mobo has a lot to do with ability to unlock cores. So this mobo may not unlock, but another might.... stability also comes into question when unlocking cores.
