Just came across it in bios, is it good or bad for OC'ing?

Kill it, kill it with fire. It can hurt your overclock or make it unstable in some cases.
Nope, that should cover the power saving features. If you find the cpu getting overly warm during idle, you can always turn these features back on.Originally Posted by Klinkey;11790989
Anything else i should be disabling (cool n quiet and turbo boost are disabled)
Id be super careful lapping the AMD stock coolers, apparently they are hollow and very thin. I never even used Mine, it went in the bin before I installed anything. AS5 takes a fair amount of time to cure for only 2 or 3C drop, I would go for MX3 or ICS next time if you can find it.Originally Posted by Klinkey;11791053
dont worryyy im only overclocking a bit. plus i lapped heatsink + applied AS5 and im doing 7-9 above ambient and AS5 hasnt cured yet.
edit: i got mine at pcdiy for 229
I stopped using AS5 when I found out about ICS. Good luck with your Oc and that stock cooler. Fan speed on max.Originally Posted by Klinkey;11791108
AS5 performs very well without being cured, anyway, cooler has been lapped already
Indeed, 8+2 is really needed for the 10 series, or you could end up with burnt up mosfets like the MSI boards. Its partly the reason I bought my GB board, massive power phase.Originally Posted by Klinkey;11791177
yehtbh idm a bit of noise, and its really not that bad to be honest. Ill pm you stress test prime 95 with speed at max and cpu at stock (btw im so happy i went with 8+2 power phase on the gigabyte instead of 6+2 on the asus)
Here's an idea, before you go silly overclocking, pop off the original board heat sinks and replace the stock TIM with AS5, don't do the mosfets they have thermal pads and be careful when you remove the sink from the mosfets that you don't tear the thermal pad or you'll need new ones.Originally Posted by Klinkey;11791196
First build too, bought 12 grams of AS5 because msy didnt have 3.5 grams lollll, gunna last me for a lifetime
I would go for the Noctua u12-P SE Special edition. I have one and loved it on my 955C3, they are slowly coming down in price too and come with two good noctua fans for push pull.Originally Posted by Klinkey;11791211
next on my list-
pay back brother
graphics card (6870)
Zalman CPNS10x Performa
Keyboard/monitor
SSD
annnd crossfire my 6870
Then go with that if it has good reviews, a lot of their stuff is excellent bang for buck. You should be ok at 1.4v but I wouldn't go higher.Originally Posted by Klinkey;11791257
Yeh but i have limited range :/ the performa was the best i could get for the money, and im only overcloking to 1.4v max
What Duckie said; apparently I've heard this can affect overclocking but in my case it really doesn't do anything towards or against stability. I usually don't recommend turning off CnQ and C1E... people need to learn to be green once in awhile, and often times it'd work perfectly anyway if you left it on so why turn it off?Originally Posted by DuckieHo;11791057
It is an enhanced idle state.
Overclock with it off.
Then turn it back on.
If the system is still stable, you can leave it on.
