I once sold an lcd screen to someone on ebay. Everything went fine then 18 days after he received the package he messaged me saying it arrived cracked. Had to refund him $90, was the biggest BS of my entire life. Now I never sell anything on ebay, I would rather sell something on OCN for less than work with ebay/Paypal.
This by far. You get better experiences on OCN, although I have had my share of bad ones before. Ebay is the worst place to try and sell something now. If you are buying then go for it and get your great deals. But sell? I never will again.

Now on the other hand, if it was faulty from the shipper, that is a different story, but since it worked when he got it, then there should be no question. He is stuck with a fubar'd CPU.
Because the buyer says it is not as described. It means nothing what your auction says unless it is categorized as broken. And even then like I said they can claim it was damaged in shipping and still get a not as described refund.

All right let me tell you a few important things about ebay.
First you must put tracking on any item you sell.if you don't you run the risk of having the buyer say he didn't get it.And guess what if you didn't add tracking to your item, you have no way to prove he did get it therefore, instant refund. The buyer gets the item and his money back, all because tracking wasn't provided.Imagine how many people have done this with 200.00+ items.

When you sell on ebay and use paypal you have to accept returns.I see so many ebay auctions that say as is or no returns whatsoever.Well guess what?If you were paid with paypal those words mean NOTHING.The buyer simply has to say not as described and that is all that matters to paypal.Once a buyer says that and opens a full paypal claim, your money is frozen in your account with no hope of getting it back. You must refund the buyer. This makes it important to document and identify any item you sell with pictures.

Also negative feedback.A buyer before he even pays for an item he won can go right in and neg a seller. So right from the start they have the upper hand.new buyers go around sprinkling neg's like candy with no idea of the repercussions. It literally costs more to sell on ebay with lower than perfect feedback.

Okay for the most part and I mean about 98 percent of the people who buy are good people who you don't really have to worry about. They are for the most part understanding. But there is always someone who is just never happy and they can ruin your rep. It's a dog eat dog world on ebay but as long as you know the ins and outs it is a relatively safe and rewarding experience. There is a risk involved and unfortunately it can really hurt you where it hurts most,in the pocket.

My chip has a huge crack down the middle and it still works fine.

Could he send a PICTURE of the setup he was using and a description? CPU's don't just die under a month, I think he wasn't "satisfied" enough and wants his money back. Probably shoved it into an outlet. Or didn't know how to apply TIM. SO many possibilities he'll deny. What a jerk

Screw that bull. Needless to say I wont be selling anything through paypal

1) If the chip was sold as-is, you will not have to refund him. Regardless of what anyone tells you in this thread, Paypal (and by extension, EBay), does not "automatically side with the buyer." Yeah, there might be an "investigation" and funds may or may not be frozen in the process. That does not mean you have to just refund him no questions asked. PayPal (owned by EBay) will take both sides into consideration.

2) I don't care what the buyer is telling you. It's been nearly a month. If the chip went bad, he likely fried it. He needs to take that up with Intel, not you.

3) Don't use eBay for this stuff. Use OCN.

Your screwed ... if you dont fight it.

I got a PSU and after a month it fryed.. I contacted seller .. No reply.. Then filed a claim and 10 days later my money was refunded.

The seller did not try and fight it... Maybe if you push the fact that it was SOLD in perfect working order you may come out on top.

luckily I kept note of the Batch number before I sold it but i have no pictures
If that's what his exact message was, it sounds kind of suspicious. Unless it was a new build or he added parts other than the i7, then wouldn't he think that was the problem first? You'd also think that when it wasn't working, he'd at least contact you to let you know it might be the processor. Hope everything works out for you.
