AMD’s upcoming Fusion line of chips will combine a GPU and a CPU in the same processor package. Unlike Intel's current Core i3 and i5 CPUs which do this, AMD isn't just bundling two discrete pieces of silicon on one package - they're going to be completely integrated. This is much like the move AMD took when developing its first quad-core CPUs: while Intel was satisfied with bolting two dual-core CPU dies together in one processor package, AMD wanted a more elegant design.

AMD seemed to indicate that Bulldozer APUs will work in current-generation server and workstation motherboards, after a BIOS update, but that a new socket or chipset might be required to unlock all of the features or power saving capabilities. However, we’d wait until this information is verified before betting our next server-room overhaul on it.

Interesting...

That is a typo. It should be CPUs not APUs. Bulldozer APUs will not be available in the near future, that product is further out.

You would need a different socket for an APU because you have to route out the video.

Bulldozer fitted with stream processors, I await the.

Sounds like the llano socket boards may be the ones to get then.

So basically for servers no need to upgrade the MB but for regular users, AM3+ is required? Could you tell me why?
