My new rig (some advice)

Thread Starter
Hi,

So ive been building my pc over the last few month just buying a bit at a time, first computer ive built so was good fun, anyway.

Ive got an Intel Pentium Dual Core E6300 come at 2.8Ghz and I've overclocked it to 3.5Ghz, within the BIOS my Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L iG31 board advised me to set voltages to auto when overclocking so did that, all seems fine, should I be doing this or set the voltages myself?

Yet to run stress tests only did some surfing last night, will do it tonight after work.

The second question is with my RAM, i've got Kingston 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 1066MHz/PC2-8500 HyperX Memory CL5 2.2V reading the reviews you need to set it within the BIOS to run at 1066, cant figure out how to do this.

Any ideas

Thanks

Take that vcore setting off auto, It's usually way to high on auto settings. To give you some indication, Stock vcore of a E6300 is 1.325v though it might vary with wich stepping you have.

Regarding the settings of your memory, There should be a tab in your bios for setting memory speed, Not sure what it's called in your bios but i'm sure someone else could elaborate on that.

Should be undeer memory/speed and you should see it. do you have Pheonix BIOS?

Thanks for the response, ill change that when i get in tonight, so to get the story straight, what should i set my vcore to?? for best results and stability, i understand you can tell me exactly but a rough guess and then i can tinker.

Pretty sure its a Pheonix BIOS dont recall seeing anything, ill post exact findings later, memory aint the best

Just go the safe route, Start increasing your fsb with increments of +5 keeping your vcore at stock. Test inbetween with OCCT or Orthos. When you get signs of instabilty raise the vcore a notch. Rinse and repeat this.

Sorry should have added, temps;

Core0: 60.0
core1: 56.0

Also ran Intel Burn Test, on normal, high then maximum (dont have enough ram for very high). All passed with temps never rising over 72. Does this effectively mean that I can overclock further? wasn't really going to had my mind made up at 3.5GHz.

With regards to my memory I can't really see anything in the BIOS, would it be system memory multiplier that's the only thing I can see that would fit?

Need to correct myself as well its an Intel E7500 stock at 2.93Ghz, told you my mermory bad, anyway voltage was set to option normal rather than configuring it manually to 1.325v think it sits around 1.28 at stock.
