I'm not so sure that it wouldn't survive at all. If anything, I think it's growth would be stunted. It's not the same concept because insects aren't vascular, but it may be related.

This. Spielberg was way off with the raptors. But I guess it would be anti-climatic to show giant turkeys after building them up as ferocious killers. Dr. Grant would end the final battle in 20 seconds with his boot.
