Eyefinity with 2 x5970s)

Thread Starter
So two quick questions:

1. Do I need the same resolution screens to play with eye finity cuz i got a 21.5" and have 2 19" that have been rotting in my closet, so time for them to come out ;D

2. Do i have to use three ports on 1 5970s or can i use 2 on 1 and 1 on the other?

Appreciate the feedback.

You have to have the same resolution and refresh rate in each monitor. All the monitors will be set to the highest resolution that is possible to achieve on EVERY display. So for example 2x 1440x900 + 1x 1920x1200 will be 3x 1440x900.. This is only if you want to game on all of them. If you only want to game on a single screen, then different resolutions are supported..

And you have to use ports on ONE card if you are planning to play on the 3 of them.... So you need an ACTIVE DP adapter... Those cost a bit more than you realize.. It's like 40€ lowest possible for DP to DVI and it's like 25€ for DP to VGA. It MUST be active. PASSIVE adapters won't work. Check out the supported adapters list on AMD's site

27 is expensive for an adapter IMO

EDIT: Listen... There are cheaper adapters. Check the AMD's supported adapters list. DP to VGA adapters can go for 25 easily..

You can still set it up to use that just fine. It will essentially show up as 2 monitors. However, if you want to use 3D crossfire on the Eyefinity display, I believe the second display will have to be disabled.

You can use 6 monitors with 2 cards.

You can link monitors to the second card, but if you want to use eyefinity, then all of the monitors in the eyefinity group have to use the same card... Monitors outside the eyefinity group can use the second card
