Why are HDMI cables so expensive?

HDMI is the exact same signal as DVI, just with a sound signal.
Why are the cables so much more expensive?

As far as I know, the "quality" of the cable is not as important because it's a digital cable, and is not subject to interference like analog signals...

You are right about the quality of cables. A $5 cable works just as well as a $100 cable. They are just trying to scam you and get more money.

i always skip them and get some from amazon. They have the best prices for them.

Look at other places besides BestBuy. You can get cables from other places for cheap. Even Amazn.com has cheaper cables.

BestBuy has overpriced products everywhere, but the less techsavy people dont always know what to expect. Its an easy way to make more money when someone buys a $1000+ tv and realizes they need HDMI on the spot.

Your $2 cable probably wont support 3d, audio return channels, ethernet etc... they are also rated for about 3gbps whereas more expensive ones go up to 15gbps.

Not saying expensive ones aren't a rip off, but to say there is no difference is false.

shockingly enough, YES, im/we're sure. HDMI is a standard. All cables must meet this standard to be sold. The standard can be neither exceeded nor skimped out on, so ALL HDMI cables will perform the same, assuming they're the same revision of HDMI.

There IS a difference? Honestly, that's the first I've heard of it. I thought that the output would have been more controlled by the software giving it/ the type of HDMI cable.
