Why are HDMI cables so expensive? - Page 3

Because you're buying them from retail stores, and looking at the Monster brand. There is nothing that out of this world more special in Monster cables than in regular $2 cables you get from Amazon. You can get about 6ft on Amazon for $5 shipped. Been using Amazon cables for years without any problems and there is absolutely no degradation in quality. I have several Toslink audio cables and a DVI to HDMI cable.

Why did the people that sell cables only choose to rip you off in regards to HDMI and not all cables?

Don't buy cables from retail stores, they are a ripoff. When I worked at CompUSA in the business department, we used to be able to see store costs. The cables were always like $1-5 costs yet they were priced to sell for $30-100. I loved the employee discounts but that was just stupid IMO.

Probably because HDMI is a standard growing in popularity so it's easier to fool customers.

A few years ago, HDMI did not come standard on all TV's...
Now, pretty much everything has HDMI.

300-500% markup...it's where retail chains make the most money.

Monoprice or Cablestogo...look for Rev. 1.4 High Speed HDMI cables for 3D and HD audio support. Won't cost more than $20.

Perfect example.
