And yet more SSD questions...

I have recently set up a Mushkin 90GB Callisto Deluxe with a Sandforce 1200 controller. I originally performed a drive clone from my old OS, but I found that is not a very good way to go, and after much benchmarking I found that a cloned drive (even with verified good alignment to the SSD and a very fast running OS) still takes a serious performance hit compared to a fresh installation. But more about that later when I create a benchmarking thread with my findings.

I seem to still be missing a big piece of the puzzle here because my speeds can surely be better. Please let me know of anything else I can do to help. I have verified that TRIM support is enabled.

So far I have:
Performed an internal Secure Erase using PartedMagic. (needed to restore the drive back to factory spec after the drive cloning) I then verified that all data was zeroed out by checking the drive with a raw data viewer.

Performed a clean install of W7 Ultimate 64-bit along with the MS AHCI driver. I have since gone to the AMD_sata driver because it was suggested for my system and after doing so it gave me a slight improvement over the MS AHCI driver. If there is something I am missing here let me know.

Moved my default download locations and large libraries off of the SSD and onto a freshly formatted 7200rpm storage HDD. I download and delete a lot of stuff and I didn't want all that extra write/erase action going on. I also plan on having my default folder for unzipping large files like movies on a storage drive as well. I have also made default folders on the storage drive for things like unzipping large files and such.

I performed a couple of tweaks to keep the drive healthy like turning off Shadow Copy, prefetching, and Superfetch. I also made sure Disk defrag was shut down. I left write-caching and virtual memory alone. Unless someone has proof that I will see a big improvment or it is not a good idea, I would like to keep them that way.

Now I have created junctions using Steam Mover and moved a couple of my biggest programs like BC2 and Office over to the storage drive. Just those two programs freed up about 10GB of space.

What else am I missing? Although I went from a 1:10 startup time to like 20 seconds flat and the computer as whole has never been anywhere near this responsive, I am still seeing a lot of others have much better results with thier new SSDs.

Just so you know, that command that returns a 1 or 0 for TRIM settings, doesn't actually tell you that TRIM is on. I thought the same thing and it turns out that AMD doesn't even have any drivers that support TRIM.

So what drivers should I be using? The MS AHCI driver or maybe the iaStor?

EDIT: just ran ATTO Bench and this is what I got. I also ran Boot Timer and got a boot time of 17.347 seconds. Not too shabby I guess.

Try msachi. I don't think you can use intel since it is for their X58 etc and you have an AMD board.

I am having trouble finding and installing the standard MS AHCI driver now. I cannot roll back to the driver (I assume because Shadow Copy is turned off) and I cannot find the download anywhere.
