Graphics Card Fails to Be Detected

Thread Starter
Well guys, sometimes my bottom graphics card fails to be recognized and run in SLi...

I only really notice when I am playing a game and then notice my FPS aren't where they are supposed to be so I reboot my machine and then sometimes I have to manually move around the 2nd graphics card or unplug it then plug it back in from the power supply and then it will be detected....

The 2nd graphics card fan IS spinning through, but it just doesn't get detected or something is going wrong....

Any thoughts on this??

It is VERY annoying!!!

If one card works and the other doesn't, then it is bad. Try them one at a time just to be sure if you haven't already.

Would you consider adding your power supply to your signature? Brand, model, wattage, etc?

...this can be related to part failures...

...this is why I ask...

Looks like I missed it. Power supply is definitely NOT the problem.

1) Have you researched stability issues with your BIOS?
2) What BIOS are you using?

BIOS? I am not sure, I am sure it is probably the latest version seeing my build is only a few months old...

I will check the bios when i get back to the house around 5pm EST.

This could most likely be resolved with a BIOS update. I had issues with DX10/11 games freezing and blacking out due to using the bottom PCIe slot for my SLI setup. A simple BIOS update later and I was problem free with a nice boost in performance as well.

Another thing to check is, if you are doing any overclocking, make sure you are absolutely stable.

Also, since you have an HX1000, just for giggles, see if switching your second GPU to the other 12V rail stabilizes things. Refer to the diagram in this thread:

I've updated the BIOS to the latest version - no luck
I've updated to the latest graphics drivers - no luck

I swapped the 2 power supply connectors from graphics card 1 to graphics card 2, still doesnt really work...

The only way to fix this seems to be to remove the graphics card and put it back in.... Or unplug the power (from graphics card) and plug it back in, probably also moving it a little

What is going on???

Did you try running the card not getting picked up by itself? No Sli to see if everything is working normal with it?
