Here is a prototype of the casing that I did in sketchup.
The edges of the case will be routered off, so they will be smooth and nice.

That will be very cool. Maybe you should request this get moved to the case mod section? I've seen a couple 360 case mods posted there.

Xbox mods are fun. I had mine hard chip modded with a larger hard drive. It had xbox games ripped to the hard drive, emulators galore, and dvds ripped to it for use with XMBC. Ahh good times. Sold it for some quick cash. I'll be keeping my eyes on this thread to see the outcome. May encourage me to mod another for old time sake.

I am planning on swapping the 80gb hard drive that is in it for a 120gb so i have more space for games and other such things.

Update:

I have pretty much finished the basic design of the casing, and have choosen the buttons that will go on the front.

here is the button I am looking at for the power button

for the 120mm fan on the side of the case i will be using a fan mesh like so.

I will be using the round hole mesh. It will be on the inside of the case so you will only see the round hole.

The side fan will be a 120mm Thermaltake thunderblade, it will be undervolted to make it quiet.

The color of the stain or anything of the sort is still up in the air.

I am still deciding on what connections to include on the back of the system for TVs, any suggestions?

pictures of the model are attached. If you would like the actual sketchup files then just PM me.
If I learn to use 3dsmax then this project will be moved over to that.

The top vents are still up in the air, I either want slots in the wood, or have some sort of mesh on top.

Your mod definately out does what I did. I simply changed the case to the clear green one that Microsoft Devs used, added 3 more fans in the back just to keep thinks cool and constantly moving since I planned on keeping it on all of the time with XMBC in heavy use and just changed the ring of light from Green to Orange.

Seems like what your planning on going with, should be more then enough.
