SSD quick question - using up my Christmas giftcards

Thread Starter
Here's the deal, since I always buy electronics throughout the year online, everyone always gets me "Best Buy" gift certificates for Christmas. I'm looking to use up these gift certificates on a new SSD, however I don't have any knowledge on them, because I always blew them off due to price.

I don't have the time nor money to search through threads and learn up before buying them, so i'm asking you very nice and informative people on this board for some help.

If i'm limited to best buy, which SSD should I go for? I've narrowed it down to 120GB drives, and I think these two are the best (but i'm not sure):

Corsair - Force Series 120GB Internal Serial ATA II Solid State Drive
Model: CSSD-F120GB2-BRKT

Intel® - X25-M Mainstream 120GB Internal Serial ATA II Solid State Hard Drive - Silver
Model: SSDSA2MH120G2K5

However if there is a noticible difference in buying a smaller sized one, i'd be willing to do that, as long as Windows 7 ultimate fits on there, as well as Adobe Lightroom, and enough extra space to screw with photos and videos before storing them on a different drive.

They also have some Kingston, and PNY drives up for sale too.

My system that it will be working with is described here:

The Corsair uses the Sandforce controller and therefore has better reading and especially write speeds. Also it might be a better idea to get two 60 GB SSDs in RAID 0 instead of one 120GB. I'm not sure if TRIM still works in that case, but you should have double the speeds that way if you have the room.

I'd go with the corsair with the sandforce. Windows 7 filled about 17gb of space on my SSD. So a small 40-65gb unit should be plenty. The $119 40gb corsair would be perfect IMO.

Just to let you know, Corsair does NOT make it easy to upgrade the firmware on your drive. At least the Extreme and Performance series.

Thanks I think I'll def go with the corsair peoducts then. Not really sure what trim is - so I guess my next question would be is it going to matter losing "trim" if I go with a raid0 config? Thanks for the quick reply guys, I appreciate it.

Even if you don't have TRIM you still have garbage control in RAID. THE corsair is better than the intel. Too bad you have to buy from best buy.

Awesome guys, thanks for the quick and informative replies!!

On my way out now, going to go pick up two of the Corsair Force 40GB to put them in RAID0.

Once again, you guys are the best!
