How to clean this gunk out of my HK 3.0 - Page 4

Dude did you read all the replies well?
How you think a 1000 grit, or any other kind of it, could work into a concave
surface? I said yet that from your photo is clear that the grit only worked
on the edges of CPU, but did not even touch the middle. Sure thing if you
reach the middle of the CPU with the grit, it will clean it and you won't see
oxidation. Obviously this means that your surface won't be concave anymore.
I am sure a polishing cream can solve that problem.
Well i'm done, good luck with anything you're gonna do

Sandpaper won't work on concave objects? News to me... He wouldn't be lapping it, and he probably would make temperatures worse, but you can still rub some sandpaper on the plate to try to get rid of that corrosion. I'm not saying it's a good idea, but it's definitely possible.

Well i didn't told you this but it was alrdy lapped before this..
so it was flat..

This is the 2nd time lapping ...

first time lapping i made it convex since i thought it would better contact :/

if you look at it you can see because of the first time lapping the middle is lapped more easily then the other parts.

We were obviously talking about the lapping job on a CPU (something you do on a perfectly flat surface,
like a glass, putting sandpaper on it, and working upon it). Yes, he could use sandpaper just with hands...
I just tried to give to him some good tips, guess we are here for this.

Anyway Runeazn, is very difficult to make it shine again if you do not use any kind of polish,
even with a 5000 grit or more.

Cola bath - it's phosphoric acid that does the work.

Pour 2 cans of coca cola in a bowl, let your cpu cooler sit there for a minute, remove and scrub with a stiff bristle brush, repeat 3 or 4 times, then let it sit in a bowl of distilled water and bicarbonate of soda (80%/20% ratio) to neutralize the phosphoric acid in the soda.

If you can find Tarn-X at a local jeweler, it will clean all sorts of muck from copper.

it's 15000 grit..
well i will use some polishing for finish.

btw to the other one, if you read my posts i alrdy did the cola bath, it is clean now.
Problem is now that there needs to be lapped.

Well, before you try anything else, you need to close up the block so the inside base doesn't keep oxidizing. Just exposure to open air WILL do that.
