[mouse input lag] - COD: Black Ops

Thread Starter
I bought COD: Black Ops and it's the first game I fired up on my new system (i7 875k + gtx470) and I noticed there's a slight lag when I'm aiming. I notice this lag more when I zoom or use a scope and try to aim.

I have all the settings at the default mode except screen resolution set to 1680x1050. I never installed the driver for my Samsung 22" widescreen monitor, I just let Windows 7 install one for it. My FPS is always at 60fps.

I was thinking this input lag may be due to having VSYNC turned on.. which is labeled 'sync every frame' in the graphics settings. Has anyone had this problem? I want to get a list of things together that would make sense to fix this and so far I have the following:

1) turn VSYNC off
2) turn the max fps up (not sure how to do this?)

If anyone can help add to this list or has any ideas I would be interested to hear them, thanks.

I've heard of mouse lag issues when using "Max Pre Rendered Frames" setting at a high number in the Nvidia CP, try some of the lower numbers to see if you get an improvement.

I'm wondering if the 'max pre rendered frames' is the same as VSYNC? I've heard about that setting as well.

No it doesn't do the same thing, VSYNC will syncronise your max fps with the refresh rate of your monitor to prevent image tearing, Max Pre Rendered Frames sets the limit of frames sent to the CPU before they are sent to the GPU

Try turning Cursor Tails off in Windows. Also, force vsync and those other settings off in nVidia Control Panel.

2 more ideas:

1) try to disable mouse acceleration in Control panel.
2) open task manager and make black ops priority -> HIGH, make steam -> LOW.

Mouse lag happens for many reasons, vsync is just of them. However there is no consistent or consensual answer to this problem. There are a few things that worked for me.

- vsync off you tried
- set mouse utilities priority to high or realtime
- restart computer
- disconnect other usb devices
- changing pooling rate

how do you turn VSYNC off?

Is this found in the COD: Black Ops menus, Graphics-> Settings-> 'Sync Every Frame' ?

Or is this setting found somewhere else..

* I have NOT tried turning VSYNC off yet.

Make sure your mouse properties at in Windows i.e. control panel - mouse - pointer options are on the 6th notch, also make sure to turn off "Enhance pointer precision" in the same menu.

In BO, make sure to turn off Sync every frame and then enable console in settings and type:

"~" to bring it up

then /com_maxfps 125

and enter

Turn off sync every frame, that is the issue.
edit:
also, Black ops is a very bad game.
That is all.
