Hey,

Basically we have an old (good at the time) Belkin54g router. Although our internet sucks, everyone has started experiencing random drops in connection recently.

We have:

TV
2 PS3's
3 Computers - 1 wired, 2 wireless
1 Netbook
Wii
2 Phones

connected to it, sometimes all at the same time. The thing is, the internet drops on the PC for example, but is still connected to the PS3. And it happens alot sometimes!

Also - the phone rings - dissconnect.

We never used to have these problems!

However we are getting a new router soon, hopefully a top of the range one and a set of new filters for the phone.

Does anyone thing that the router can't handle the amount of devices? I hope this is the case, as a new router will solve it

Looks like someone needs to hop in the router settings and set up some QoS.
Are your phones 2.4Ghz Wireless? It might be messing up with your 2.4Ghz Wireless Router.

If im guessing right he has 2 VOIP phones. Those thing just steal the bandwidth like no other. But also, check what the above person said too cause those would drop you with the interference.

Nah the phones are just connected through the phone line with a filter. Also I think they are yeah, whats QoS? Quality of Signal?

We have tired lots of things though, however its getting worse and worse. I really do hope its the router playing up and not something wrong with our line as that would be pretty bad

More than likely it's your router's age. Whenever someone comes in and is looking for a router to replace theirs because it just stopped working or it consistently drops their signal, I ask how old it is. More often than not they tell me it's 2-3 years old, only a handful say it's been longer. My personal router (wired and wireless one) died at about 2 1/2 years. Different brands, different features, yet they both bit the bucket around the same time.

I think it's a conspiracy. XD

Ah I suppose thats a good thing, I just dont think ours can handle everything thats going on in our LAN these days. Its about 6 years old....

The reason we kept it though is it had every feature you could imagine (then anyway) so we loved it.

Guess its time for a new one.

Still unsure about it dropping out because of the phone though.

You've got to be kidding me. My Linksys WRT54GS is like 5 years old not to mention has it's TX Power cranked up almost to the max and it's OC'd. It's still performing like a champ. Router age has nothing to do with it.

Hmm I never thought the age had anything to do with it, more like the newer technology sitting on it.

Think we are getting that one, although the PS3's cant support 5ghz so we will have to stick it on 2.4ghz i think;.

Yep. Or else none of your wireless devices will be able to connect to it.
