Then you can use different resolutions.

You ONLY have to use the same resolution in each screen if you want to game on all 3

ok so just to be clear, to run three displays i need to sli two cards, to game on all three i need three screens with the same resolutions, but to game on one the resolution of the three screens is irrelevant

I don;t at all

FYI-if you're using each monitor as a *separate* display, Windows will ONLY put the Start bar on the primary display. The only way to get a start bar on each panel is to pay for a utility like ActualMultipleMonitors or say UltraMon-each of which are like $40USD. AMM adds some other nice bells and whistles. Windows at stock does an awful job implementing (separate) multiple displays.

Yes. All your monitors can run different resolutions and refresh rates in EXTENDED MODE

Extended mode makes each monitor separate. If you maximize a window (wether it be a game or a browser), it only maximizes to the screen that the window is currently in...
Task bar is only on the main monitor... Games only run on the main monitor
Resolutions and refresh rates can be different for each monitor

Eyefinity and surround require all resolutions and refresh rates to be the same. All windows maximize to all screens..

Also it's worth noting that if you want to use nVidia surround (you won't use it if you only want to game on one screen), all your monitors must have the same sync polarity

in surround/eyefinity mode, you CAN run different sized monitors with different resolutions.

only catch is: the resolution of all your displays will be reduced to the resolution of the display with the lowest resolution.
