PS3 with the crappy RCA cables

Thread Starter
OK, grew up playing PS and after the PS2 I had gotten into PC gaming. Finally got a PS3 yesterday for GT5 and did not buy an HDMI cable due to the cost of it at best buy. Picked up GT5 and Uncharted 2 at Toys R Us with the buy one get one 50% off.

Question is this, my TV will play at 1080i once i get the hdmi cable, but what is it playing at with the rca cables its hooked up to now? I hope its ALOT less cause right now it just doesnt look that good to me. Alot of jagged lines everywhere. Maybe the PS3 has no AA?

Either way, is there going to be substantiel difference in the quality once I get the HDMI cord? headed to walmart after work to pick one up. I hope so.

Yes, it will play at 1080i. Right now with the RCA cables it's 480i. Yes there will be a substantial difference. Hope that helped.

I am not real certain what that difference is unless its the same as the difference in standard TV and HD tv, i sure know thats a huge difference.

HDMI cords are expensive in stores...Usually the cheapest I can find is $20+ for a short 3ft cord....

I would look around online, they have deals all the time for $2-$10 for 6ft

When you say RCA, do you mean Composite (Yellow, Red, White), or Component (Green, Blue, Red, Red, White)

Composite (Yellow) will only do 480. Component (Green, Blue, Red) will do 1080. HDMI will do 1080 as well, but will only require you to plug in one cable for both video and audio, as opposed to 3 cables for video (Green, Blue, Red), 2 cables for audio (Red, White) with Component.

If you want a cheap HDMI cable, buy one from www.monoprice.com. They're usually around $2, with around $5 worth of shipping. Shipping is combined, so you can order a few HDMI cables, maybe some SATA cables, etc just to have some spare cables around.

I meant the Composite ones, I do have some component cables, but they wont hook into the PS3, or at least I couldnt find anywhere they hooked up.

Ah okay. I was just asking, because technically both Composite and Component cables are both "RCA cables". I seem to remember our Playstation 3 including Component cables, but maybe I'm remembering wrong? I know we use HDMI now.

and yeah, regular Component cables won't work, you need the PS3 component cables with the component on one side and the PS3 hook up on the other. At least that's how it is on our fat PS3. They might have done away with component completely on the new slim models. I'm not sure.

Order your HDMi cables from Deal extreme, 7.40 for a 1.8 meter HDMI cable: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.51461

Even this 1.3 meter one for 4$:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.24546

Bottom line don't be gouged by local stores for HDMI cables when you can buy them from that site. Theres no difference with digital signals, it either works or it doesn't.

Only draw back is the longer then normal shipping because its from china. I have a couple spare ones from that site though just encase I ever need one.

You need the ps3 specific component cables.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...omponent+cable

Plugs into the ps3 in place of the composite cables.

*Redmist beat me too it.
