Setting Up My SSD - Page 2

Thread Starter
This is the instructions I see about the ACHI and registry on Win7.

1. Startup "Regedit
2. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / CurrentControlset / Services
3. Open msahci
4. In the right field left click on "start" and go to Modify
5. In the value Data field enter "0" and click "ok"
6. exit "Regedit"

Also, my Win7 is an update from Vista using an update retail disc.

Also, my Win7 retail discs are the upgrade kind. Don't know if that is a big problem or not.
My AHCI option is under 'Integrated Peripherals' in the BIOS and is under 'Sata Type' as the sub heading. Try looking in that direction.

To be honest, I just clicked on everything in my BIOS and looked at the drop down menu's until I came along the one that had AHCI in it. It will be in there somewhere.

The registry thing is in that guide I linked you to. Honestly, just follow that guide, it explains everything and took me maybe 20-30minutes to completed and now everything is set up perfectly.

EDIT: AHCI should be located in your BIOS, I never knew you could enable it in your registry. But I guess either way is plausible.

The windows upgrade thing should not be a problem. At the end of the day it's either retail or OEM and a HDD upgrade does not void either of those.

HP bios should allow you to change to AHCI, what model motherboard/laptop is it?
